With proms being a high school highlight, it’s no surprise organizations are trying to help us re-live the past by sponsoring adult proms as a way to raise money. Instead of the student body voting for the king and queen of the prom, groups are using cash donations as “votes,” with the top donation getter earning the title of king or queen.
Peoria Mortgage Lender Stacy Borho is in the running for Throwback Prom Queen, a fundraiser for Quest Charter Academy. In Champaign, Branch Manager Lindsey Flessner is supporting the Eastern Illinois Foodbank as a candidate for the organization’s Studio 54 Prom Event.
A Quest for Queen
Stacy Borho, NMLS #689948, spends much of her time supporting community organizations, and this fundraiser gives her a new opportunity. She said, “Yes” to being a candidate because she was honored to be asked. In addition, she is an advocate of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) curriculum. “Education is a simple but powerful tool for our kids,” she says, “and STEM is a huge part of our society now and we need more children learning about this sooner.”
Stacy is competing against four other queen candidates, and she expects the competition to be tough. She notes the prom committee asked her to participate because of her connections in the community, but the other candidates are successful community leaders, too. Each participant has a goal of raising $2,000. Amounts over that mark will bring the crown.
Stacy says she wasn’t a fan of high school, and she wasn’t on prom court, but while there, she enjoyed meeting new people and making new friends, two things she absolutely does day in and day out in her job and when working for community organizations. She adds, “While in high school, I loved driving, singing and dancing.” She expects to do bit of all that as part of her Throwback Prom adventure.

Promenade in the Making
Lindsey Flessner studied fashion and likes to help people with their personal clothing style. So it’s no surprise she’s giving her prom dress considerable thought. “I want to go all out with the Studio 54 theme,” she says.
But more importantly, she’s giving the donation she needs to collect to earn the title of prom queen donation goal more consideration. “I know I’m up against some tough competitors,” she says. But Lindsey plans to show she’s equally competitive. “I was never crowned queen in high school, so my hope is that I am crowned queen this time around. If I am, I will have raised the most money as every dollar counts as a vote. As it is a wonderful cause and organization, I am working hard towards becoming queen.”
Lindsey has been involved in the Champaign-Urbana community for years. She has supported the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association and the Cunningham Children’s Home, and she says she looks forward to volunteering Eastern Illinois Foodbank outside of taking part in the prom fundraiser. “EIFB is an organization that provides food to struggling families in our community. For those who the EIFB serve, one in three are children. This population is the most vulnerable and dependent, and it is up to the Foodbank to make an impact in their lives. Food is fundamental; children shouldn’t have to worry where their next meal comes from.” Lindsey adds, “For every dollar I raise, the Foodbank will provide five meals.”
