When Susan Fleming began working for INB in 2020 as pandemic lock downs began, she said the lull in foot traffic to the Riverton and Mt. Pulaski branches gave her the chance to slowly learn her role and INB’s policies and procedures.  But, she admits, “I did underestimate how COVID would affect my ability to get to know the customers.  I have been here a little over two years now, and I feel like I am just getting to the point where customers know me and trust me.”

Making it Happen in Spite of COVID

While she sees the relationship as slow in getting off the ground, INB leadership has noticed the work she’s doing. This has led to Susan’s recent appointment to Assistant Vice President as approved by the INB Board of Directors at a recent meeting.

In her nomination memo, Kathy Greer, INB senior vice president, retail executive manager, says, “Susan came to us with 16+ years of marketing and banking experiences and has been a great fit for our continued presence in Riverton and Mt. Pulaski.  She quickly embraced the INB culture and has been instrumental in coaching her staff to success in many areas.”

Susan’s leadership is seen day-to-day and in her management philosophy.  She expects the branch staffs to do their best. In return, says she expects the same from herself. In addition, she tells herself regularly, “Never give up. Keep trying.”

Morning Person

When asked to describe her day in a hashtag, Susan says, “#Opportunities.”

Each morning, she comes to work, makes out her lists, and plans her day.  “The morning is my favorite part of the day,” she says. “I determine who I am going to call, etc.  Then by 10 a.m.  everything has changed, but it makes me feel more organized to have a plan of attack.”

Susan is passionate about animals, especially dogs. She’s volunteered at shelters and fostered dogs. She tries to end her days with long walks and playing with her own pets.

When asked “If you could switch lives with someone for a day, who would that be?” she says the someone would be here dog.  “She is spoiled and pampered.”
