Howard Mooney is a native of Decatur. His father worked for Caterpillar, which led to his family relocating to Belgium for three years in the middle of Howard’s childhood. “That gave us the opportunity to tour Europe, sparking my love of history and travel,” he says.

After Howard’s family returned to Decatur, he eventually met his wife, who also grew up there. The couple has a daughter who lives in Denver and son who lives in Dallas. Both graduated from the University of Illinois, so the entire family is avid Illini fans, enjoying a family tailgate tradition each year at homecoming.

Howard’s banking career began at First of America. From there, he worked for FirsTech, a payment processing company and subsidiary of Busey Bank. Finding a passion for growing the bank through innovation and technology solutions, he became Chief Information Officer of Busey in 2013.

Howard joined INB as Chief Information Officer in 2024. When he’s not creating new opportunities through technology solutions at INB, he enjoys sports, traveling, cooking, trying new restaurants, and remodeling houses.
